Fish Plaques

I made these crazy fish plaques out of old painting palettes.. I have accumulated a stack of these things, and instead of throwing them out, I saw something IN them..

The NEPTUNE Festival!

Well September is here and I'm now preparing for the Neptune Festival, which runs from Friday Sept. 24th through Sunday Sept. 26th. For those of you who are not familiar with The Neptune Festival, it's a biggie.. many excellent artists in the show, plus an international sand sculpting contest (I had the privilege of judging it last year with Paul DiPasquale, renowned sculptor), plus a surfing contest, a parade, a marathon, live bands, and many other fun filled events. I mainly concentrate on entering the big shows at the beach (like The Neptune) because a lot of people attend these, plus I am hoping to sell some of my artwork and make many new contacts. Plus the Neptune is TON of fun!! This year I will be exhibiting my paintings, prints, custom skateboards and faux skateboard plaques.. plus some new abstract and far out goodies.. soon to be revealed! More fun that I can hardly stand. Peace... Bob

My print store in online!!!

Well, after many months of tinkering with my website between jobs, art shows, family time and surf sessions, I have finally gotten my print store up and running on my website, www.thebobzone.com. Unfortunately, I have had great difficulty trying to figure out all of the paypal stuff, and so for the time being I decided to accept payment the old fashioned way, by check or money order. People can check out my artwork, decide on which prints they like, send me an e mail with the info and then I send the prints out after the check or money order is received. I still am planning on getting the paypal in place, hopefully by the end of July or early August. Go ahead and check out the prints, and give me a holler if you want some!! I'm really stoked, fun new adventure on the horizon!! Peace.. Bob

busy busy summer!

Wow, summer is half over and I can barely believe it. But yet I do, because when you are reeeally busy time really does fly. Beach Street caricature gigs, painting commissions, and juggling family stuff (my wife had her gall bladder removed AND a major hernia repaired last Thursday.. I was out for several days tending to her needs. She is feeling a bit better now but still very sore. Still hoping that she might be well enough to attend the B52's concert at Busch Gardens on Sunday :)

The Bayou Boogaloo, XVD Skateboards and my Beach Street Schedule

It's hard to believe that June is almost over! Came and went like a slingshot, and I turned 46 on the 8th. Tons of stuff happened this month, took the family to Busch Gardens and there were NO crowds (yahoo!) and got into some pretty good surf at the first part of the month (although it's been pretty flat for the last couple of weeks). The city of Virginia Beach pays me every year to draw at the oceanfront in the evenings during the summer months (The "Beach Street USA" program), and I have been down there drawing several evenings already. If you are in Virginia Beach this summer and would like a free caricature, come down between 7:30-11:00pm on these nights (on Atlantic Avenue and 17th-25th streets.. they move me around every time.. most of the time I am on the corner of 19th street though, look for me there first). Ok, here's my schedule for the remainder of the summer:

July 2,7,10,18,21,25,28 and 31

August 4,7,10,14,20 and 26

Also I just finished drawing for 3 days at this awesome festival in Norfolk on the waterfront this past weekend. The event is called "The Bayou Boogaloo", and it's a cajun festival with live zydeco and blues bands, authentic Louisiana cuisine and tons of entertainment, of which I was a part of (I have been invited to draw caricatures at this festival for the past three years.. I totally love it!) I am posting a youtube video of this event on this blog as well.

I'm also trying to finish a surf painting for a friend, getting some work done on a childrens book that is scheduled to be published, and a design for a local surf shop.. gotta fit family time in always.. plus always gotta surf too! When it's going off, I'm usually in the water, I find a way. I am also really stoked about the prospect of designing graphics for a skateboard company here in town (XVD Longboards).. I am meeting with them tomorrow to discuss terms. In the next post I'll continue the story..

Peace..

Bob

Mid June!

Man, I can hardly believe it's already the middle of June. My birthday came and went like a cannon shot (June 8th) and I'm SO busy.. summertime is always the busiest time for me work-wise. The first Beach Street Caricature gig was this past Saturday from 7:30-11:00, and it was a lot of fun, drawing loads of tourists. This coming weekend I will be drawing for First Colonial HS After Prom part, which runs from 11:30 pm through 3:30 am. I draw at a lot of these after prom parties, this year I did Great Bridge, Oscar Smith, Hickory and now FC. Also I'm finishing up a surf painting for a good surf biddu of mine right now, it's of an evening glass off at the Crystal Pier in San Diego.Photos to come soon...

busy in May

Wow, I've got so much going on this month. I just finished a psychedelic sunburst painting that was attached to a wall grill, and I am now in the middle of a surf painting for a good friend of mine. Also I am painting a faceboard for Virginia Beach Events, they are having an Irish festival this summer, and I'm doing this nutty painting of a leprechaun and an Irish milkmaid with the faces cut out, people put their own faces in the holes and you take a picture.. you know what I mean, fun stuff, and hey, it's $. After that, I've got to turn and burn, getting ready for the art show at The Steel Pier Classic and Surf Art Expo at the Va Beach oceanfront (during Memorial Day weekend). I am exhibiting my surf paintings, surf prints, custom skateboard decks, and these crazy fish made out of paint pallettes.. also I will be showcasing my surfboard paintings, and I will be painting a couple of boards during the show as well. Stoked! Stay tuned..

Art show coming up soon!

Hey Y'all, it's May! Water is warming up (surfed with just a short john and no booties yesterday, 53 degree water but it IS getting warmer..) So busy this month with my art. Creating a cool painting for my surf buddy Bill Davis, based upon his recent trip to the Crystal Pier in San Diego, plus several other projects for the upcoming Neptune Festival, etc.. after that, I am focusing hard on getting everything ready for The Steel Pier Classic and Art Expo during memorial day weekend! I've got some new surfboards to display (many for sale), and I'll be doing another board painting demo as well. Plus prints, new canvas surf art, new skateboards, and other fun wyld art that you've gotta check out! My son Daniel is on Steve Morris' surf team now too, and he'll be competing in the surf contest. Ok, that's all for now, got to get back to work... Peace..
